Katy Perry insists ‘teenagers will save us all’ but they’re actually really angry at her right now

Katy Perry is still talking about the LA Mayoral election after her controversial vote for Rick Caruso – and people are not happy.

The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker left many fans less than impressed after sharing a photo from the voting booth, showing her voting for Mr Caruso, who was a longtime Republican before switching parties in January and running as a Democrat in the 2022 election.

He’s running for LA Mayor against Karen Bass, who has received the support of celebs including Ariana Grande, John Legend, and Mark Hamill.

Katy has not directly addressed the backlash to her photo, but has continued to speak about the polls on social media, retweeting a quote from Van Jones that read: ‘We may have underpolled young people. Something is going on [in this election] that we missed’ and adding: ‘Teenagers will save us all.’

Rather awkwardly, many of said teenagers seem very unhappy with her right now.

One follower posting the photo of her voting for Mr Caruso and adding: ‘Because we can’t count on you miss girl.’

‘You voted Caruso, please stop. You do not have the support of the gays anymore,’ another said.

One more added: ‘Katy please we don’t want to deal with you tonight,’ while another told her: ‘After seeing ur ballot we hope so lol.’

Katy had previously shared a photo of herself giving a thumbs up as she selected Mr Caruso’s name on her ballot.

I am voting for a myriad of reasons (see the news) but in particular because Los Angeles is a hot mess atm,’ she wrote.

She also voted yes on Measure 28, which would increase funding for arts and music in schools.

In the past, Mr Caruso has donated to anti-abortion organisations and an LA Magazine profile of him in 2007 stated that he ‘opposes abortion in most cases but would support some stem cell research.’

However, he has more recently pledged support for abortion rights and his representative told ABC7: ‘Rick has always been pro-choice and has always supported Roe v Wade.’

Following her photo, Katy’s fans and followers spoke out on social media.

One wrote on Twitter: ‘As much as the right try to spin it, Katy Perry voting for Rick Caruso is not an indication of anything other than a rich white woman voting for a fake democrat who will ultimately have no effect on the quality of her life but will worsen the lives of many others.’

Katy Perry’s politics should surprise no one, considering her background… wait until y’all figure out that the majority of your faves are publicly liberal and privately conservative. It’s the most profitable and safest stance for multimillionaires who wish to avoid criticism,’ another said.

One more added: ‘Katy perry tweeting out a pro-choice video while voting for rick caruso would be objectively hilarious if it wasn’t painfully dumb.’

Katy’s not the only celebrity to be backing Mr Caruso. Kim Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Chris Pratt are also among those to have endorsed the candidate.

Meanwhile, Ms Bass has been backed by stars including Kerry Washington, Mark Hamill, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
