Kate Garraway has revealed her mother has been rushed to hospital after suffering an accident during a family holiday.
The presenter, 54, had been in Cornwall with her children, parents and other family members amid a rare break from caring for husband Derek Draper, when her mother hurt herself on a walk.
Kate took to Instagram to share a photo of her mum with a boot on her ankle as a nurse smiles at the camera, revealing that she had been patched up and was set to recover at home.
She wrote: ‘Just when you thought (hoped!) I hadn’t had a new reason to thank the #nhs recently cue an unfortunate tumble from my mum on the way to the beach & and a broken foot and twisted ankle.
‘Thanks to the typically wonderful #nhs team at #bodmin hospital and particularly wonderful Ruth we managed to get her booted and safely home for further treatment. You were all so kind – thank you so much. ‘
She joked: ‘And thanks to @peugeotuk (again) for lending us a car with enough room for her to keep her leg stretched out for the whole journey (although it did mean my Dad was relegated for the first time ever to the back seat , where he really enjoyed defining the expression “back seat driver”!!! )’
The family had been in Cornwall to enjoy a break from the 24-hour care Derek requires since returning home, with his family taking over to look after him.
Derek, 54, had been in hospital for a year after catching coronavirus in March 2020 and was one of the worst-affected cases to survive.
He was left with many complications following coronavirus, including holes in his heart and diabetes and requires assistance around the clock.
Kate has adapted her house to be able to look after him in his own home, including fitting ramps and a hospital bed downstairs, hoping that the added stimulation of being with his family will help with his recovery.Original article published here.
