Johnny Depp rounds off 2020 with heartfelt New Year message: ‘May you be surrounded in perfection’

Johnny Depp rounded off a difficult year with a heartfelt New Year message for fans.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor revealed his hopes for ‘better days’, amid the global pandemic.

Taking to Instagram, the 57-year-old uploaded a picture of the preface to William Saroyan’s 1939 book, The Time of Your Life.

‘A New Year’s wish to all,’ he began the caption.

‘Though the world is in mourning for better days, I hope all of you are able to find a moment tonight to smile and more importantly, to laugh and make others laugh, as much as possible.

‘I know this may be difficult in the midst of these trying times, but I wish nothing but happiness and health to all.’

‘May you be surrounded in perfection,’ he concluded the post. ‘With all my love and respect, JD.’

Depp previously shared a similar message as he rang in Christmas last week.

Beside an upload of himself and Pogues singer Shane MacGowan, he wrote: ‘This year has been so hard for so many. Here’s to a better time ahead.

‘Happy Holidays, everyone! My love and respect to you all. Eternally, JD. X’.

The Edward Scissorhands star has had a tumultuous 2020, during the pandemic and lockdown.

As well as this, he lost a lengthy libel case against News Group Newspapers (NGN), The Sun’s publishers, after he was branded a ‘wife beater’ in a column.

Shortly after the hearing, his lawyers announced their plans to appeal the court decision.

Depp added in a statement: ‘The surreal judgment of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal.’

He was also asked to step down from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 by Warner Bros, with Mads Mikkelsen subsequently replacing him.
