Jennifer Lopez has revealed exactly what fans can expect from her forthcoming album This Is Me…Now and it sounds like a full-blown ode to her husband Ben Affleck.
A follow up to 2002’s This Is Me… Then, Lopez’s new record is set to drop in 2023 and the hit-maker confirmed it’ll cover all things Bennifer 2.0.
Of This Is Me…Now, JLo shared: ‘We captured me at this moment in time when I was reunited with the love of my life and we decided we were going to be together forever.’
Hardcore Bennifer shippers will know that lots of the songs on This Is Me… Then were actually about Affleck, 50, who Lopez, 53, was romantically involved with at the time.
In fact, speaking on the Zane Lowe Show to the podcast’s host, JLo explained that she actually had to stop performing songs from This Is Me… Then because they became too painful after she and Affleck called off their engagement in 2004.
Following their split, Bennifer spent 18 years apart but finally found their way back to one another in 2021 before tying the knot this year, first eloping to Vegas and then celebrating with a ceremony and lavish party surrounded by friends and family.
‘It was so painful after we broke up. Once we called off that wedding 20 years ago, it was the biggest heartbreak of my life. I honestly felt like I was going to die,’ the Jenny From The Block hit-maker shared.
Lopez also told Lowe that Affleck had noticed she’d stopped performing the songs.
‘It’s funny because when me and Ben got back together, he was like, “You never performed the songs. You never did I’m Glad, you never did this. You never did that,’’’ explained JLo, adding: ‘I was like, “You’re right. It was painful.’”
Thankfully, Bennifer found their way back to one another, something Lopez described as ‘the universe coming back together’.
Revealing she’ll be exploring her and her hubby’s rekindled romance on This Is Me…Now, Lopez added: ‘The whole message of the album then is, if you have, like me at times, lost hope, almost given up, don’t, because true love does exist and some things do last forever and that’s real.’
The singer also confessed to Lowe that it was tough showing her vulnerable side on the new songs, but added that she’s glad she was open and honest.
JLo noted: ‘I want to put that message [of true love] out into the world and that does take a lot of vulnerability.
‘But I couldn’t stop myself and some parts of it scare me. And I think parts of it scare Ben too. He’s like, “Oh, do you really want to say all this stuff?” And I’m like, “I don’t know how else to do it, baby.”’
Lopez announced her new album in November and shared the names of the record’s 13 tracks – and yes, one of them is called Dear Ben Pt. II.
