Jason Derulo explains why he named his son after himself: ‘I wanted my name to continue to thrive’

Jason Derulo has opened up on why he and girlfriend Jena Frumes named their child Jason King Derulo,

The couple, who welcomed their baby son at the start of May, have been having a great time adjusting to life as parents.

Jason revealed to People that he had been desperate to have a son, so that the pair could share the same moniker.

He explained: ‘My brother has girls, and my sister has a girl, so I knew we needed a boy to carry on the name, literally.

‘We needed to have a boy because the Derulo name was out. I spoke him into existence.

‘I wanted my name to continue to thrive, and I also thought that it would bring me closer to him.’

As well as sharing the same name, it looks like Jason Jr is set to follow in his dad’s musical footsteps as he already loves listening to a good tune.

‘He seems to really adore music already,’ Jason revealed. ‘From when he was in the womb, he would start kicking whenever I would play music on my phone, because every morning I played the song that I had did the night prior.

‘Now, it’s the only thing that keeps him calm. He’ll be going crazy one minute and then you start playing some music and he’s okay.’

It has also inspired Jason to try and make the next Baby Shark song, as he is interested in making music for children as well as adults.

Jason explained: ‘It’s probably 60/40 regular music to kiddie music [Jason Jr listens to], but I was actually thinking of making some kiddie music for him, myself.

‘He’ll be the first critic. If he likes it, then I guess the other kids will like it.’
