Jamie Oliver has been suffering with some unpleasant health difficulties recently.

The 48-year-old was discussing his fitness programme when he disclosed he’d had numerous slipped discs during the previous four years.

Jamie explained: “I get up at 4.30 a.m. and try not to wake anyone or I’ll get a rollocking.”

I clean my teeth and bowl in a tracksuit since I go to the gym after work. I’m just getting back into routine gyming after four years of three slipped discs.

He argued that his demanding profession had forced him to deal with it.

However, he said that there have been instances when he has been unable to stand for lengthy periods of time.

The chef continued to tell The Sunday Times Magazine: ‘It’s about managing it — my job doesn’t allow me not to work.

‘If I stop, this whole thing falls apart. I’ve had weeks where I’ve been able to stand for only 40 seconds at a time.

‘Now if I get a sniff of it I’m straight to see my doctor and he sticks a bloody great needle in my back.’

Jamie also discussed renewing his vows in the Maldives last year with his wife Jools after 23 years of marriage.

The couple’s first wedding took place in 2000. They have five children together: Poppy, 21, Daisy, 20, Petal, 14, Buddy, 13, and River, 7.

Jamie shared of the vow renewal: ‘We thought we would remind the kids that their mum and dad love each other. We have three still living at home.

‘Pops is travelling and Daisy is training to be a nurse up north. Having five delays the empty nest. I think that was Jools’s strategy.’

He added of his and Jools’ evening routine: ‘When the younger kids are in bed I’ll light a fire and slump on the sofa like a bag of potatoes. We’ll watch some dross and if Jools falls asleep I’ll switch over to something about building bridges. We go to bed at 10pm.

‘For the past year I’ve talked to myself in the third person just before I fall asleep, going through the day and thanking myself for carrying this bag of bones around. There are bollockings in there too.

‘It’s a bit weird but it seems to work. I thank all the people that I love and who I’m grateful for. I fall asleep easily. My body is, like, “For f***’s sake, please.” Hopefully I will get some more sleep one day.’

Back in April 2023, the cookbook author shared some sweet snaps from their vow renewal, writing: ‘Morning all, Me & @joolsoliver got married again ! Yep After 23 years together, we thought it would be a special moment to celebrate renewing our wedding vows before the kids all start leaving the nest.

‘It was really special, funny and romantic with the words in the ceremony making more sense having come this far together.

‘It seems like a blink since the first wedding which we kept very private apart from the paparazzi at the village church we thought it would be a happy and joyful moment to share with you all this Easter.

‘We’ve always dreamed of going to the Maldives and it was just as you would have dreamed, simply amazing!’
