Model Roxy Horner has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with a severe ailment during the last trimester of her pregnancy and been ordered to ‘rest up’.
The 32-year-old is having her first child with comic partner Jack Whitehall, 34, and has since kept her 230,000 Instagram followers updated on her pregnancy journey.
Along with adorable photos of her holding her growing baby belly, Roxy, who is expecting her first child with Jack, has also made time to be open about her challenges.
On Sunday morning, the pregnant woman turned to Instagram to reveal that she had been in the hospital the previous week and had been diagnosed with symphis pubis dysfunction (SPD) after’struggling in agony’ to perform daily duties.
‘Last week was tough for me, we lost our grandad and then I spent a few days in hospital,’ she wrote on the social media platform, alongside a picture of her and Jack’s rescue Cavapoo, Coco.
‘I’ve been diagnosed with symphis pubis dysnfunction which basically means I struggle to stand up or walk during this last bit of my pregnancy without having proper rest.’
‘I wondered for a while why I was in pain struggling to do normal things but it makes sense now and apparently quite common in last bit of pregnancy [sic],’ she added.
SPD, also known as pregnancy-related pelvic girdle discomfort, is a combination of unpleasant symptoms caused by stiffness of one’s pelvic joints or joints moving unevenly at either the rear or front of one’s pelvis.
Roxy, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2021, also showed off her baby’s nursery, which had a pink fluffy carpet and a white wicker cot with a lovely patterned interior.
‘Not finished yet but coming back to this made me smile,’ she shared, while Coco posed at the front of picture.
Due to her illness, plans had also had to be postponed, with Roxy providing a brief tour of what looked to be the couple’s living room in their £12million Notting Hill property, which was decked up in pink balloons.
‘I had one of our rooms set up to look pretty for when I was supposed to be hosting some friends this weekend but obviously my body had other plans and I’ve been told to rest up so it’s going to have to just look pretty for us now,’ she joked, adding a cry-laughing emoji.
‘I wish it looked like this all the time lol,’ the cover star admitted.
Discussing the impact pregnancy had had on her diabetes, Roxy told presenter Steph McGovern on Steph’s Packed Lunch in June: ‘Your sugar levels kind of go up a lot higher during pregnancy because you become more resistant, so it’s quite hard to manage and it’s changing weekly – before I was pregnant I knew exactly my carbs to insulin ratio, whereas now it’s just changing all the time.
‘I’m having to up my insulin dose pretty much daily at the moment because I’m in the third trimester and that’s when it really kicks in.
‘You have to manage it a lot more tightly as well during pregnancy because it’s not just you, you’re thinking about the baby as well.’
She also recently predicted Jack’s parenting abilities, suggesting that he will be a ‘wonderful dad’ and provide plenty of laughter.
‘I know we’ll count on him to constantly make the baby smile and laugh! I hope to be someone our child can always rely on, we just can’t wait for them to be here,’ she added.
