Despite only starring in four of the eight Harry Potter films, Evanna Lynch won fans’ hearts as the ethereal Luna Lovegood.
Luna was a fan favourite, dubbed ‘Looney Lovegood’ by other pupils for her unconventional thinking and fairy-tale character.
Although she was a fellow Hogwarts student, she did not appear until the fifth film, Order of the Phoenix.
She instantly befriended Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and formed a relationship with him over invisible death horses, eventually joining his gang and becoming a pivotal character in the plot.
Evanna appears to have surreptitiously stolen another co-star’s heart on set, that of Robbie Jarvis, who joined the franchise the same year as Evanna, portraying James Potter.
Despite the franchise’s enormous popularity and devoted followers, the couple dated for nine years and kept their relationship private.
They met on the set of the fifth film in 2006, Evanna having gotten the part the year before at the age of 14, beating out 15,000 other girls.
Robbie, then 20, joined the show the same year as the younger version of Harry’s father, joining an already tight-knit cast and crew.
They became friends and began dating, and they were together for nine years before parting up in 2016.
Over their almost decade-long romance, both kept things relatively low-key, with barely a few posts and public appearances.
Evanna did persuade Robbie to switch to a more plant-based diet because she is vegan and has long been an animal rights campaigner.
She greeted her’sweetest boy’ a ‘happy 29th birthday’ on Instagram in May 2015, announcing they were going to watch a performance together.
Despite their split, the two are reported to have remained close friends.
Evanna has acted in films, television series, and theatrical projects after the conclusion of the blockbuster franchise in 2011, but she also authored a biography about her problems with anorexia and popularity.
She said in 2020 that after acting in Harry Potter, she had ‘overblown’ aspirations of her life, which reality fell short of.
‘Sometimes I’ll meet [fans] at conventions and at plays, and I’ll meet them after that and they’ll be like, “Why are not you doing blockbuster movies” and I’m like, “Yeah, why am I not? I don’t know, I just didn’t feel like it, that’s all”,’ the now 31-year-old said.
‘They have no concept of how cutthroat the industry is.’
