Hugh Jackman claimed that he needs 8,600 calories per day as part of a punishing six-month bulking regimen for his Wolverine return.

For the first time since 2017’s Logan, the 54-year-old X-Men star will resume his role as the muscle-bound mutant in Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3.

His extensive meal preparation while exercising revealed that he was consuming almost four times the daily calories required for a healthy adult male.

Hugh posted a photo on social media of six pre-prepared meals in tubs labelled with ingredients and calorie counts, with the caption: ‘Bulking. A day in the life. Thank you Chef Mario for helping me stay healthy and properly fed whilst… Becoming. Wolverine. Again [sic]’.

Four of the star’s meals seemed to have 1,100 calories, while two included 2,100 – a whopping 8,600 calories if all were consumed in one day.

Bodybuilders who train to be in the form Hugh will be in to play Wolverine consume five to six meals a day, but typical guys are advised to eat roughly 2,500 calories per day to maintain their weight.

The star from The Greatest Showman’s meals included green vegetables, spaghetti, rice, and meat, with one tub appearing to be filled with steak and another with pork.

Hugh confessed earlier this year that bulking up to portray Wolverine takes him six months of intense training.

He said: ‘I’m not doing any other work. I’m going to be with my family and train.

‘That’s going to be my job for six months.’

The Les Miserables star initially played Wolverine in the first X-Men film in 2000, and he reprised the role in numerous sequels.

In the past, the A-lister stated that he had no idea what he was getting himself into when preparing for the renowned part.

‘In fact, in X-Men one, if you look at it, I was cast three weeks before filming and all the scenes with my shirt off had to be pushed to the end… there is one shot, it was the first thing I shot, and the director was trying to hide my body!,’ the star commented.

He said: ‘I knew nothing when I went into these films’.

Deadpool 3 is set to be released in November 2024.
