Harry Styles has broken his silence on T-shirtgate, the incident in which he shared a photo at the gym wearing a One Direction outfit and caused outrage among fans.
Harry posed in the shot, which was quickly deleted, wearing a T-shirt that plainly featured him and all of his ex-bandmates’ faces in boxes – Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and earlier Zayn Malik – with a sixth square devoted to their shortened moniker 1D.
This set fans into a frenzy, with many wondering if it was Harry’s way of announcing a reunion.
Others weren’t persuaded, and because the As It Was hitmaker quickly removed the post, they assumed he’d meant to share it with his close pals rather than the entire globe.
But the celebrity has now disclosed why he uploaded the photo, and everyone should relax right now.
‘Maybe, like some people, you want to keep things to yourself… and maybe one day you will unintentionally upload it to your Instagram Story,’ the artist quipped to the Auckland audience at his final Love On Tour show.
In response, New Zealand supporters yelled their hearts out in what appeared to be a fitting end to his globe tour, which has seen him perform for captivated audiences in 28 nations.
This comes after the megastar paid respect to his ex-bandmates during his acceptance speech at the Brit Awards, where he won four prizes.
‘I wanna thank my family for being the most supportive, understanding, patient family,’ he said, with his sister Gemma, present.
Harry added: ‘I wanna thank my mum for signing me up for the X Factor without asking me.
‘I also wanna thank Niall, Louis, Liam, and Zayn. I wouldn’t be here without them.’
One Direction emerged from The X Factor in 2010, when the five lads auditioned as single performers and formed a band.
The band dissolved in August 2015, and there are presently no prospects for a reunion (that we are aware of…).
