Foo Fighters are set to be the first act to play a full-capacity concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden since the coronavirus pandemic began – but audience members will have to be fully vaccinated to get in.

The band announced the news on Tuesday, but the fact fans will have to have had their second dose of the coronavirus vaccine at least 14 days before the show hasn’t gone down well with everyone.

Announcing the news on Twitter, the official Foo Fighters account tweeted: ‘We’ve been waiting for this day for over a year. And @TheGarden is going to feel that HARD.

‘New York, get ready for a long a** night of screaming our heads off together to 26 years of Foos.’

It will be the first full-capacity show to take place at the venue, without social distancing or masks, since the pandemic began.

The show will take place on June 20 and audience members will have to show proof that they have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus as well as their tickets in order to enter the venue.

Previously, fans have been able to attend NBA playoff games at MSG with different sections for vaccinated and unvaccinated fans since the city has started to open up again.

The newly announced show is part of the Foo Fighters tour which was meant to celebrate the band’s 25thanniversary but had to be postponed due to the pandemic.

Despite the coronavirus vaccination proving to be a key component in getting life back to normal after the pandemic and having been deemed safe, some fans were upset that they would not be admitted without it.

They tweeted: ‘Over 2k people in the queue. How can msg require vaccines. That’s discrimination when some people may not be able@to get a vaccine’ and ‘What would your great friend Lemmy have made of this? Music should bring people together, not sow division. Hugely disappointed fan.’

Another added: ‘What happened to inclusion not Discrimination? So disappointed. Dave Grohl has now officially lost his status as the coolest guy in Rock.’

The vaccine policy at the show is designed to comply with current rules for arena shows and concerts in New York, but the short notice will mean some fans will not be two weeks past their second jab when it is due to take place.

In the UK, vaccination has now opened up for all adults over 20, with record numbers booking in for their jab when the age limit was lowered.
