Emma Heming Willis published a poignant post on the 68th birthday of her husband Bruce Willis after he was diagnosed with dementia.
Since 2022, when he was initially diagnosed with aphasia, the Die Hard star has been living with frontotemporal dementia till it was discovered this month.
In an effort to raise awareness about the cancer, Bruce’s 14-year-old wife is now talking up to followers about life following the sad news.
The 44-year-old woman fought back tears as she described her grief over spending her husband’s birthday ‘weeping’ prior to posting an emotional video of happier times.
Emma revealed how she experiences loss on a regular basis before confessing that she must put on her “big girl pants” to cope.
Bruce and Emma have two daughters together: Mabel, age 10, and Evelyn, age 8.
‘So today is my husband’s birthday,’ Emma began in the video message to Bruce’s fans, before tearing up in a heart-wrenching moment towards the end.
‘I have started the morning by crying. As you can see by my swollen eyes and snotty nose, I just think it’s important you see all sides of this.
‘I always get this message or people always tell me like, “Oh you’re so strong, I don’t know how you do it.” I’m not given a choice. I wish I was. But I’m also raising two kids in this.
‘So sometimes in our lives we have to put our big girl panties on and get to it. And that’s what I’m doing. But I do have times of sadness every day. Grief everyday. And I’m really feeling it today on his birthday.
‘So I worked on this reel that I’m posting for my husband’s birthday. I don’t know why I do that to myself because the videos are like a knife in my heart.
‘But as much as I do it for myself I do it for you. Because I know how much you love my husband and – don’t cry Emma – but it means so much to me so thank you.’
Bruce appeared to be living life to the fullest in the most gorgeous family photomontage that Emma had ever shown.
Backtracked with Stevie Wonder’s As, the minute-long montage depicted their years together as their two children grew up, and it was extremely heartbreaking.
With the moving footage, Emma added, ‘He is pure love. He is so loved. And I’ll be loving him always. Happy Birthday my sweet ’.
‘My birthday wish for Bruce is that you continue to keep him in your prayers and highest vibrations because his sensitive Pisces soul will feel it Thank you so much for loving and caring for him too ’.
This follows Emma’s response to harsh internet trolls who accused her of using her husband’s dementia diagnosis for publicity.
She pledged to utilise her ‘five minutes’ to raise as much awareness about the condition as possible.
