Denise Welch has confessed that she is mistaken for Oscar winner Dame Judi Dench at least ‘twice a week’.
Denise, 65, is an actress who has appeared in shows such as Waterloo Road and Coronation Street, but Dame Judi, 88, has attained international acclaim with parts in films such as James Bond and Shakespeare in Love.
Denise, better known these days as a Loose Women panellist, revealed that she is frequently confused for Dame Judi as she gets older.
Denise, on the other hand, is ‘distressed’ because people assume she’s 23 years older than she is.
Denise revealed this week on the Loose Women: Live Tour in London, ‘This must happen to me at least twice a week,’ according to the Mirror. Another issue is who I am confused for.
‘I’m sitting outside a bar in Soho having a coffee last year, and this guy comes up to me and he went, “You’re Judi Dench”.’
She added: ‘I love Judi Dench but she’s 88. So my son on the phone went, “Oh my god mam, have you just been mistaken for Judi Dench?”’
Dame Judi has lately stepped away from the spotlight, explaining in July that she can no longer see on film sets owing to her poor vision.
However, the legendary actress has not let this stop her from working, as she has developed an other method of memorising scripts, such as having friends teach her the lines.
‘I mean, I can’t see on a film set any more, and I can’t see to read, so I can’t see much. But, you know, you just deal with it. Get on,’ Dame Judi said over summer.
She added to the Mirror’s Notebook magazine: ‘It’s difficult for me if I have any length of a part. I haven’t yet found a way. Because I have so many friends who will teach me the script. But I have a photographic memory.’
The actress also stated that she intends to work ‘as much as she can’ despite the challenges her ailment, which she was diagnosed with in 2012, might create.
