Denise Welch has accused the government of ‘hypocrisy’ after she was barred from travelling with her sick father in an ambulance – even though football fans were seen to to gather in the streets in their hundreds over the weekend.

The soap star – who previously refuted the suggestion she was a ‘Covid-19 denier’, and said she’d had both vaccinations – said she wanted her freedom back, accusing the government of a ‘cover-up’.

Sharing an image of football fans to Instagram on the weekend, Denise wrote: ‘Today, I wasn’t allowed to travel in an ambulance with my 84yr old frightened dad. Why?? There is no reason.

‘I’ve tried to call out this hypocrisy for over a year. I came off Twitter as I was called a covid denier. Nothing could be further from the truth. But I knew this would happen.

‘I saw the utter hypocrisy when the govt allowed the clap for carers to become a weekly carnival with emergency services lining the streets with their sirens blaring. Karaoke and wine parties, nurses gathering outside hugging. Bridges full of people clapping.

‘Meanwhile, 2 men were threatened with arrest as they tried to comfort their mother sat alone at her husband’s funeral.’

The Loose Women star asked why the government hadn’t been ‘transparent’ as she claimed people have been ‘silenced’.

She went on, adding she was ‘done’: ‘NHS workers (I’ve spent 10 weeks amongst them) not allowed to speak out about ANYTHING. The NHS is in a mess. It has been for years and we are told that WE have to save it. We don’t. They have to save us. But the communication system within it is completely and utterly broken and that is the fault of the trust bosses. No one else. This has to stop. We need to be given our freedom back.

‘I’ve had my 2 vaccinations and I will make my own decisions about the risks I take. They have no right to continue to control us and let football rule the f…..g world. (sic)’

While the pair have been at loggerheads in the past, Denise’s message echoed similar sentiments of Piers Morgan who earlier today suggested those who have been double vaccinated should have their freedom returned.

Sharing a message to Twitter on what was meant to be ‘Freedom Day’, which has since been delayed four weeks, the former Good Morning Britain star wrote: ‘I’ve supported lockdowns as the only way to suppress covid without efficient testing systems or vaccines.

‘But now we have both, fully vaccinated people should get their freedom back again from July 19.’

After he was questioned by a follower about what happens to those who haven’t received their full Covid-vaccination, musing whether ‘we throw them in a cave or something’, Piers insisted those who refuse the vaccine can be thrown in the cave.

The journalist replied: ‘Those with legitimate medical reasons not to be jabbed must continue to take care, and be given due care.

‘Anti-vaxxers can be thrown in a cave, yes.’
