David Walliams has been forced to deny stealing a dog after an e-fit that posed an uncanny resemblance to the Britain’s Got Talent judge was released by the police.

Welsh police are searching for dognappers after an owner fought off the three thieves while trying to walk his dog – even covering one in his dog’s poo.

However, according to the police estimation, one of them looks a whole lot like Little Britain star and children’s author David.

Thankfully, the 49-year-old was on hand to clarify that no actually, he hasn’t stolen any dogs – and he’s sure he would remember if he did

‘Is that me on the far left?’ he quipped. ‘I think I would remember stealing a dog!’

It’s a fair point.

Police say a 30-year-old dog-owner was threatened at knife point as the men attempted to steal his Labrador.

He suffered face and head injuries in the incident on February 25, and is recovering at home.

Detective Constable Kirsty Matthews said: ‘The victim was extremely brave and it is fortunate that he was not more seriously hurt as he did everything he could to stop the men from taking his dog.

‘We appreciate this incident caused a lot of concern locally, on social media and will no doubt worry all dog owners.

‘This is an isolated incident and extensive enquiries are being carried out to identify and arrest those responsible.’

It’s not the first time a celeb has been put in an awkward situation by a lookalike, after a man who looked a lot like Friends star David Schwimmer was seen stealing beer from a shop in Blackpool in 2018.

The actor, 54, quickly got in on the joke as he recreated the CCTV footage and showed himself sneaking around a shop, before sheepishly glancing up at the camera.

‘Officers, I swear it wasn’t me,’ he joked. ‘As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.’
