David Harbour’s cat saved him from suicide during the depths of his alcohol addiction

David Harbour claims his kitten saved him from suicide in the midst of his alcoholism.

The actor, 46, has previously been very open about the alcohol addiction he suffered in his 20s.

The Stranger Things star says things once got so bad he considered killing himself but was saved because he felt the need to be there for his cat.

He told the Guardian: ‘What stopped me was going, “I love this cat! Who will take care of this cat?”

‘Also I was horrified by the idea of dying in my apartment, not being discovered for a week and having a cat eat me.’

David with diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 25, which he manages with medication, revealing on Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast in 2018 that he found sobriety with the help of a 12-step recovery programme.

Last month the screen star revealed the moment he decided to marry singer Lily Allen thanks to one of her daughters.

Lily, 36, and David wed in Las Vegas in September, sharing pictures from their special day on Instagram at the time.

The actor explained Lily’s daughter, nine-year-old Ethel from her marriage to ex Sam Cooper, pushed him to decide to wed Lily after she labeled him ‘just some guy in our lives’.

Smile hitmaker Lily also has Marnie, eight, from her seven-year marriage to Sam, which ended when they divorced in 2018.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, David explained it was when out for a bike ride that he was inspired to take the relationship to the next level.

He said: ‘The little one was riding along and she was going like, “David, dad, Dav- dad”, because the “D” got her confused.

‘And the older one got very upset with that, which I understand, and was like, “He’s not our dad! He’s not our dad!” And the younger one was like, “Well, what is he? He’s kind of our dad.”’

‘And she [Marnie] goes, “What is he?”. And she [Ethel] goes, “He’s just some guy in our lives!’”

David said: ‘I was like, “I need to marry this woman”… Because the emotional fallout!’
