Dancing On Ice’s ex-judge Jason Gardiner quits showbiz to be eco-friendly farmer

Jason Gardiner has revealed his new career path, having quit showbiz to become a ‘Nomadic Permaculture Designer’.

The former Dancing On Ice judge, 49, has revealed that he is living in Portugal on a farm and has done a course in biodiversity and sustainability and teaches others how to make their homes more eco-friendly.

He told The Sun: ‘I was very lucky during lockdown. A neighbour of mine kindly offered that I get to use her allotment.

‘It changed my life. It was really quite profound and a beautiful experience. It put me on a different trajectory.

‘We are moving towards being self-sufficient whether we like it or not. Being a grower of food and being sustainable is the future.’

Jason had previously been a judge on ITV’s Dancing On Ice since 2006, leaving the show in 2019 which he told fans was to: ‘return to things I have been putting on hold and have been on the back burner for a while.’

He was famed for his outspoken and often controversial comments, including a much-publicised spat with former contestant Gemma Collins.

Rumours he was being replaced started following his comments comparing her to a ‘refrigerator’, which he claimed to not have seen the backlash about on social media.

He later apologised for his comments, adding: ‘Ignorance is bliss, I don’t know about this. I don’t engage on the social media platforms like that.

‘It’s something that I find gets magnified and distorted and people jump on a bandwagon. You can’t really buy in to it.’

Discussing whether his comments could be interpreted as fat-shaming, Jason said: ‘Oh god no. If people are taking it that way I’m really sorry. It was a way of diffusing any tension and making light of the situation.’

Jason has since kept his followers up to date with his new lifestyle, which includes chopping wood from fallen trees to use to heat his house instead of electricity.
