Behati Prinsloo has revealed that husband Adam Levine was not the best birthing partner, after he almost had an embarrassing toilet incident in the delivery suite.
The model, 33, shares daughters Dusty, five, and Gio, four, with her Maroon 5 star husband, 43, but the birth of their first child was almost overshadowed by Adam’s blunder.
While it’s not uncommon for a woman to poo herself during labour (it happens, the midwives and doctors have seen it all before), it’s generally less conventional for the father to do so…
Appearing on The Ellen Show, Behati told Ellen DeGeneres: ‘I had a doula to help me kind of stay out of the hospital as long as possible, so I’m not there too soon.
‘And Adam told me Carson Daly told him that we all need to eat a lot of food, because the dad can pass out if he doesn’t eat and the mom also needs food.
‘I’m like, “I’m good.” I’m in pre-labor here. So, I’m at home, not feeling like eating, so he orders pasta and pizza, and he eats everything — everything.’
While Adam was at no risk of fainting from hunger, the copious amounts of takeaway food he ingested soon left him in trouble in a different way.
Behati explained: ‘We finally get to the hospital, and I actually waited too late to go to the hospital, so I couldn’t get the full epidural, but I’m very happy about that now.
‘So, the whole time I’m in labor, Adam had to go to the bathroom really bad.’
Even after the birth, things did not seem to improve for the musician as Behati added: ‘And after Dusty was born, he goes, “Is there a bathroom?” And the nurse shows him the bathroom right in the delivery room and he goes, “That’s not gonna do it, I need a far away bathroom.”’
She joked: ‘And that’s when we realised Adam is a really nervous eater. When he gets nervous, he eats a lot.’
We can only assume that he learned from his mistakes by the time their second baby was born…
