After hosting Future Sounds on BBC Radio 1 for two years, Clara Amfo has announced her resignation.

Joining the station in 2015, the 39-year-old host has been providing the voice of Future Sounds since 2021.

The BBC has stated that Clara will remain on staff to work on special projects including a new Sounds programme.

Starting in April, Jack Saunders, host of Chart Show, will assume the role.

The celebrity posted a photo of herself in the studio to social media, captioning it, “The face of a woman trying to keep a secret/make big decisions, whew!”

‘With immense gratitude and thought given, I have made the choice to say goodbye to Future Sounds on @bbcradio1.

‘I’ll save the long paragraphs (cos you know I love ‘em!) for my final show but for now, I will say….⁣

‘I’m so proud of the work I’ve been able to do on every type show over the years from the 8th floor.⁣

‘I’m grateful to have had the ears of the listeners who have consistently shown up for me.⁣

‘I’m enamoured by everyone I’ve had the privilege of working alongside for each and every broadcast.⁣

‘I’m so honoured by the incredible artists and their hardworking teams who have constantly provide the most precious thing we all need to keep going in this wild world

‘I’m energised and excited for my next chapter as part of the network and beyond!⁣ See you at 6pm ⁣Clara⁣ X.’ ⁣

Fellow Radio 1 legend Greg James offered his support to Clara on her post, as he wrote: ‘Love yeeeeeeeeeew

Presenter of Radio 1’s Future Artists, Jack, expressed excitement about “championing new music” and added that his new position meant his “dreams have become a reality.”

Jack will be replaced by Sian Eleri, who presently hosts The Chillest Show and The Power Down Playlist, with a new show aimed at introducing up-and-coming musicians and bands.

She said: ‘I’m excited to build on what is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding parts of the job – finding and championing the best new artists in the world for listeners to enjoy.’

Clara previously said how she landed the Future Sounds gig in 2021.

‘I got a general office assistant job at Kiss FM that started out as a role helping out the marketing team, which included everything from scraping off stickers in nightclubs to covering other presenters’ shows at Christmas, standing outside the big Topshop trying to get people to do voxpops for the station — and being ignored. A rite of passage,’ she explained.

On how her career has helped heir grow, Clara explained how it’s taught her the ‘true meaning of confidence’ and to ‘silence [her] inner critic’.
