Holly Willoughby donned her own mother’s dress as she turned 40 today, in a nod to her parents who she isn’t able to spend today with.
The Dancing On Ice star shared a snap from her celebrations this morning, as she turned the milestone age, surrounded by colourful balloons, boxes of flowers and a glistening ’40’ – should she forget, we suppose.
However, despite the love, the This Morning star shared her sadness that, due to the coronavirus pandemic, she wouldn’t be able to celebrate with her mum and dad, so by wearing the dress she feels closer to them from afar.
Holly wrote alongside a snap on Instagram: ‘This photo of my Mum was taken on her 40th birthday at the party she had in the garden. I remember this day so clearly. It’s a strange thing to reach the age you remember your Mum being!
‘…I asked her if she’d kept the dress and of course she had… Strange moment zipping it up this morning, wondering how she felt on her big day…
‘I can’t be with my Mum or Dad today but wearing this in her honour makes me feel closer to them… love you Mumma! #sothisis40 ’
It’s impossible to say who the dress – which is an iconic black, floral number with a peplum skirt – suits better, showing that in the Willoughby family we’re dealing with a sisterhood of the travelling dress situation.
