Andrew Garfield is open to another Spider-Man collaboration with Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland as he praised the dynamic between the three characters.
The British actor, 38, portrayed the web-slinger in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise in 2012 and 2014, and famously returned in the newest instalment, Spider-Man: Far From Home.
In one of the best (or worst, depending on how you look at it) kept film secrets in recent years, both Andrew and original Spider-Man Tobey joined Tom in the universe-hopping blockbuster.
While fans had been theorising – and hoping against hope – that this would happen in Far From Home, it was still a golden moment in cinema history for audiences when Andrew was finally revealed under the mask.
And that moment could be replicated in the future, as Andrew admits he would ‘love’ to work with Tobey and Tom in a future Spider-Man film.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Andrew was asked if he believes he could ever do another Spider-Man movie, to which he replied he was ‘definitely open to that’.
‘Again, it would have to be something very special, very unique, and of service to the audience, of service to the character,’ he said.
Andrew believes that there is still potential for his Spider-Man, something ‘playful and unique and odd and unexpected to be done. I’m not sure what that is, but if we can figure that out that would be so much fun!’
Appearing in the MCU along Tom Hardy’s Venom would be ‘a cool idea,’ Andrew admitted.
He added that he would ‘love to continue working with Tobey and with Tom – that three brother dynamic is so juicy.
‘But to be honest, I’m so happy and satisfied to be a part of this and it’s hard to want more right now!
Referring the incredible audience reviews and critical response to Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew said it was amazing to be a part of Tom’s ‘origin story’.
The plotline and devastating ending to the film left Andrew feeling ‘broken’, describing the isolation Peter Parker experiences as ‘agonising’.
But while the film itself may have been utterly tragic in parts, Andrew is ‘so grateful’ to have had the chance to work on it and gained a ‘brotherhood’ with Tom and Tobey.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Andrew revealed that it wasn’t just the public he lied to when he insisted he was not returning in No Way Home – he kept the secret from former Amazing Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone, too.
‘Emma kept on texting me and she was like, “Are you in this new Spider-Man film?”‘, he recalled.
‘I was like, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She was like, “Shut up, just tell me,” I’m like, “Honestly, don’t know what-” I kept it going even with her. It was hilarious,’ he laughed.
When she finally saw the film, her response was simply to tell her pal: ‘You’re a jerk.’
The actors met while filming The Amazing Spider-Man, and, like their characters, enjoyed a five-year romance from 2010 before splitting in 2015.
