Amanda Bynes has been lauded for recognising that she need assistance during a psychotic episode.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the former Nickelodeon star was placed on psychiatric hold following an incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.
She is The Woman. Amanda had previously suffered with her mental health and was placed under conservatorship in 2013, from which she was discharged last year.
About a year later, Amanda was supposedly found alone and naked on the streets of Los Angeles.
According to TMZ, the singer waved down a passing automobile and alerted the driver that she was having a mental episode before phoning 911 herself.
According to law enforcement sources, she was brought to a local police station and placed on a 5150 hold.
Several people have flocked to social media to express their support for Amanda and to wish her well, with some praising her for supposedly seeking assistance herself.
Individuals suffering from psychosis or psychotic episodes sometimes cannot tell their behaviour is irregular, prompting Twitter users to ask for Amanda’s purported achievement to be recognised.
Author and mental health advocate Bassey Ikpi took to the site on Monday where she said: ‘The fact that Amanda Bynes flagged a car down, told them she was having a psychotic episode and called 911 herself actually gives me a lot of hope for her well-being.
‘That’s a huge deal. When she’s ready, I hope she can be proud of herself for that.’
Another was impressed ‘that she recognised what was occurring and understood what to do,’ while another was’so grateful she now understands how to get treatment, and I hope they find medicines to help her.’
Erika Heidewald, a musician, said it was “amazing” that the former actress “was able to realise that she was in psychosis, seek for help, and contact 911 herself.”
They added: ‘Amanda Bynes demonstrated a really impressive level of self awareness and commitment to her mental health. she’s clearly been doing the work – she understands her illness, checks in with herself, and probably had a plan for how to seek help once she recognized signs of psychosis.’
One admirer commented that it is’very tough to realise when you need help, and I’m so glad she did. I hope she is getting the assistance she requires.’
Amanda is currently being treated in a hospital and will be there for several days.
The revelation comes only days after she abruptly withdrew out of 90s Con ahead of a scheduled performance alongside Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.
Amanda was released from conservatorship on March 22, 2022, following a nine-year court order.
The Amanda Show star was originally restricted due to a series of mental health and substance misuse concerns.
Judge Roger L Lund, of Ventura County Superior Court, lifted the order – and said at the time: ‘She’s done everything the court has asked over a long period of time.’
