Nicole Scherzinger has joined the number of celebrities who have paid homage to Maui in the aftermath of the island’s wildfires, which killed almost 100 people.
The 45-year-old singer posted a video in which she asks her followers for their support and assistance in the aftermath of the natural disaster.
Her footage came after she faced outrage from followers who believed her most recent swimsuit photoshoot that she shared on Instagram was ‘insensitive’.
The Honolulu resident responded to the flames on the same social media account, uploading the video with a lengthy comment.
It read: ‘Maui needs our help. Please do whatever you can to help our friends and ‘ohana in this time of need. See the link in my bio to support Maui in whichever way you can. @hawaiicommunityfoundation @hawaiiredcross @mauihumanesociety
‘Sending all my Aloha to those living this devastation and mahalo nui to those continuing to raise awareness to help fight these terrible times.’
In the video, the actress sat in an empty room wearing a plain white corset top and begged with the audience to donate to the Hawaii Red Cross.
The star promised: ‘Your monetary donations will go directly to families in Maui who need our help.
‘Thank you and God bless.’
Fans raced to support the former Pussycat Dolls actress as she sought to spread the message beneath her post.
One follower wrote: ‘Stop being so disrespectful and force her to fulfill YOUR expectations. If you want to help, do it.
‘Nothing changes if YOU are criticizing her for what she does or not does. YOU don’t know what she is doing in the background.’
Another said: ‘Guys can you please be respectful! OMG it’s her home! She did more for Maui and her home than you all together! So think about that before you write a comment. Stay kind!’
Their encouraging remarks came in the wake of backlash over her prior swimsuit photos from her vacation, which her followers thought were in “bad taste.”
The disastrous wildfires killed 89 people, according to authorities, making it the worst calamity in the state’s history.
