It all became too much for Adam Driver as he took in the response to his new film at the Venice Film Festival.
The American actress co-stars in Ferrari with Shailene Woodley, Penélope Cruz, Patrick Dempsey, and Jack O’Connell.
It chronicles the life narrative of Enzo Ferrari, the genius behind the renowned sports vehicles, an Italian sports car entrepreneur.
And when the film premiered in Venice, Adam, 39, broke down in tears as the crowd gave it a seven-minute standing ovation.
Fighting back tears, the Emmy candidate basked in the acclaim before being called to his feet by filmmaker Michael Mann, 80.
Adam, dressed in a black suit and bow tie, clapped for his co-stars, including Patrick, 57, who sat next to him.
Earlier in the day, the actors and their director put on a lively performance on the festival’s red carpet.
Due to the ongoing Saf-Aftra strikes, the carpet was considerably more bare than normal.
Many celebrities have boycotted the annual lavish gala, but Ferrari was permitted to participate since it did not violate any strike regulations.
Because the project was created by an independent studio, the actors and crew were able to debut it.
Speaking during the event, Adam was quick to compliment Neon before blasting larger production corporations.
‘I’m very happy to be here to support this movie, and the truncated schedule that we had to shoot it and the efforts of all the incredible actors working on it and the crew,’ he began.
‘But also, I’m very proud to be here to be a visual representation of a movie that’s not part of the AMPTP and to promote the Sag leadership directive which is an effective tactic which is the interim agreement.
‘The other objective is obviously to say, why is it that a smaller distribution company like Neon and STX International can meet the dream demands of what Sag is asking for — this is pre-negotiations — the dream version of Sag’s wishlist, but a big company like Netflix and Amazon can’t?’
He added that ‘every time people from Sag go and support a movie that has met the terms of the interim agreement, it just makes it more obvious that these people are willing to support the people that they collaborate with, and the others are not.’
‘Understanding the interim agreement, it’s a no-brainer for all of these reasons why you’d want to support your union, and I’m here because of that: to stand in solidarity with them by showing up, and further proving the point that it’s really about the people you make it with.’
Ferrari hits UK theatres on December 26th, making it the ideal Boxing Day treat for any Adam Driver (or sports car) enthusiast.
