90 Day Fiance star Stephanie Matto has revealed the extreme reaction to her selling fart jars, from family members practically disowning her to death threats.
The reality star’s unique business venture was first unveiled last month, with Stephanie revealing she had made a staggering £38,000 a week from selling jars of her gas.
Earlier in January, Stephanie recalled how she was hospitalised and thought she was having a heart attack after squeezing out one too many.
Naturally, the business has raised eyebrows but some trolls have even gone as far as to wish death on the entrepreneur.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk about the reaction, Stephanie said: ‘There’s been a lot of good that’s come from it, but a lot of bad as well.
‘There’s been some bad and that’s mostly surrounding the fact that people do not like the idea of a woman having full ownership of her body and making her money however she wants to. I’ve received negative backlash about my work for a long time but now because the story’s so big I get so much hate.
‘People commenting that I should kill myself, that I’m disgusting, that my parents should be so proud.’
Stephanie’s mother has gradually come round to the idea of her daughter’s unique money-maker but she admits it ‘wasn’t easy for [her] family to stomach’ at first.
‘I got some upset phone calls from some family members but this is my job,’ she stated.
‘It took my mother a bit of time to come round to the idea but she defended me the other day in an Instagram comment, basically telling them to f**k off.
‘Some family members have been very unkind. I’ve had one family member actually reach out to me and tell me I’m bringing shame to the family name so I guess I won’t be speaking to that [relative] for a while.’
‘You can’t make everyone happy,’ Stephanie reasoned.
The TV star, who rose to fame starring in 90 Day Fiance: The Single Life season two, explained that she has ‘always done very niche, weird stuff for work’ including founding an 18+ adult website and launching a YouTube channel based on her sex life, although it was the fart jars which ‘changed [her] life’.
However, she teased: ‘Fart jars are just the tip of the iceberg,’ as she plans on taking a leaf out of Gwyneth Paltrow’s book of Goop and launching a candle range based on her own, ahem, scent.
‘We’ll see where this goes, maybe fart candles are next. Maybe that’ll be my next pivot, we’ll see,’ she hinted, adding: ‘I’m not quite sure but maybe I’ll do a limited release of Valentine’s Day special fart jars.’
For now, Stephanie has retired from making the fart jars since her hospital dash, and is now focusing on selling them as NFTs instead, which is proving to be just as lucrative – she listed one NFT fart jar for $200 (£146) and it quickly sold on to a new owner for $2k (£1,463).
Stephanie explained: ‘I’m really shifting my focus to the NFT farts now because, first of all, I’m so passionate about crypto and being a woman in the NFT space. It’s a male-dominated community so I’m very passionate about this, I want to be more involved.
‘Not just women in NFT and crypto but also women that are in the sex industry pivoting into this realm as well.’
