Aldi is constantly duping luxury brands – but how well do they actually replicate products?
At a time when money is tight as bills and day-to-day costs rise, more of us will be looking for cheaper alternatives to shop.
Aldi’s Lacura range can be a good way to save on your beauty buys, and we put the Lacura Atom fragrance to the test.
It’s £5.99 and said to be a dupe for the iconic Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 fragrance, which retails for £72.
Escentric Molecules pioneered the idea of having a ‘barely there’ fragrance that enhances your natural scent in a pleasant way without covering it up.
Nowadays, those kinds of scents are all the rage, with other brands like Glossier following suit with their scent, called You.
But what if you could get a copy of the original, for a fraction of the cost?
How good is the Aldi dupe?
We you first spritz Atom and Molecule 01, the initial difference is clear.
Molecule 01 is instantly more pleasant and woody, while there’s something slightly off-putting about Atom.
We couldn’t place our finger on it, but it smelt less enticing.
However, a mistake people often make when testing perfumes is to go off the first smell – but they always need time to develop.
This is where Aldi gets it right.
Let 15 minutes pass and the fragrances change slightly – with that unpleasant note in Atom fading down.
After half an hour, they smelt identical. The only difference was that Atom was slightly gentler on the nose and faded more quickly.
If you’re a Molecule 01 fan, you’ll notice a difference at first, but give it some time and once settled, you wouldn’t be able to tell Atom and Molecule One apart.
For a cheaper alternative, we think this is a good dupe to buy.
You’d be hard pressed to pick out the differences – especially when there’s a 92% difference in cost when buying Atom.
